My interpretation of this song….. is as it follows.
Why would she feel like she’s losing herself?
To me this could be the only downside of becoming an emotionally and financially independent woman. It’s both, a blessing and a curse.
It’s a blessing because being emotionally (and often times also financially) independent makes her extremely attractive and also less likely to put with people and situations she doesn’t want to deal in her life. But she won’t settle for less than she wants or thinks she deserves.
She has purpose, drive, a mind of her own, does what she wants, sets up goals and achieves them, loves herself, loves her freedom, wants to do fun things, loves a thrill, wants to challenge herself constantly and has a willingness to help to change the world for the better.
But then it’s also a curse because while she’s pursuing so many dreams and goals she needs most of her spare time to do so and therefore she won’t want to sacrifice much time to invest in a relationship with all the care, effort and attention a love relationship needs to thrive.
And she’s perfectly aware of this. That’s why it’s simply better to stay away from the dating scene and avoid men because even the ones that came to her claiming that they didn’t want anything serious ended up head over heels for her once they realized she wasn’t like the rest. She really meant that shit of owning her life and honouring her life goals.
So… her solution? She just avoids men and interacting with them as much as possible just to save herself time and possible heartaching dramas.
It is a hard choice, but she doesn’t want to go breaking hearts and constantly having to explain that she’s more committed to her goals than she is to a relationship that may or may not turn out well.
And I mean it, even if some men claim they just want to be friends or casual lovers most of them end up wanting more with her.
And well, she would like to warn everyone but it sounds extremely conceited going through life saying “do not fall in love with me because I’m not even a possibility”. Is like assuming they already have feelings for her, and they might not have any the moment she meets them or when she warns them of this, which would make her seem arrogant as hell, but she knows they may end up hurt because that’s the experience she has trusting men claiming they don’t feel anything or they don’t want anything.
She lived it before, trust me, she has possibly the most emotionally unavailable men ever falling for her. Like… the “single and proud to be single” to the recently divorced or recently heart broken guy.
Some pretended just to want to work with her and then wonder why she dumped them when they started expecting all the benefits of a committed exclusive relationship. And that’s not something she had agreed to.
Please bear in mind that if they got anywhere near her ever since she got divorced it’s either because they fought hard to earn a chance or because the kind of person they are naturally draws her in because they themselves display qualities she finds attractive and admirable in them, so she won’t reject their company as she does with the vast majority of men who try these days.
So of course she’s going to appreciate them, cherish their efforts or their time and attentions, if she lets you in her circle you are already some kind of winner, but still that won’t make her ready to commit to things she’s not ready for at the moment. .
So… that’s why I think she says… DON’T GIVE ME A REASON.
And yes, even if some men are perfectly aware of this and agree to her “selfish?*” terms and they won’t even ask us for “more” … them giving us their “all” demanding nothing in return of her still makes these kind of women uncomfortably selfish. We know these men deserve more… and we know we’re not able to give it to them.
And we understand that’s their false hopes and expectations of what we could give them when they decide to pursue something with us despite of the warning signs that we’re not ready to commit… but still… we’d rather avoid time and heartache and just stay out of any possible situation that may lead to it.
Some men will say that the little we give them… is plenty or more than enough for them” …. but we can’t help but feeling there is something missing if they would just be satisfied with that from us. Our lack of commitment to them perhaps make us feel that way.
Why giving a little bit more of her feels like losing herself completely?
Perhaps because during past heartache she promised herself she’d be roaming wild and free for as long as she could chasing other larger than life goals and dreams.
So anything that gets in the way of her time and freedom to do so would be a good reason for her to break up any kind of relationship if it’s not 100% what she pictured on her mind it should be in order for her to justify compromising her freedom ever again. Not breaking up when she feels restricted in some kind of way would start a conflict in her mind with herself making her question her integrity and her commitment to herself. And she would rather choose peace of mind any time over giving half love or receiving half love.
She may want the company of a special someone that offers all these crazy plans and last minute adventures she is willing to take on.
And yes, she probably loves them in the best way anyone has ever loved them (healthy love, not toxic one, basically loved their company, love who they are, but not depending on them, not interested in getting him to settle down with her, not pressuring him for any kind of commitment and just entertaining him out of pleasure).
But perhaps… she’s just already in a long term relationship with her goals. And I guess she is more loyal to her goals than to a relationship with men at the moment.
Maybe with time she will soften her grip or perhaps someone who is as into their own goal and dreams will find her perfect just the way she is… and they can work on a common dream together. And if it’s like that, perhaps it could work.
But at the moment it’s that or the highway.

Entre las ventajas se encuentra que ser independiente la hace extremadamente atractiva;
